Children Corner: Local Govt. effort at Ballamjhar UHFWC, Sadar Upazila

‘Ballamjhar union sub center under DGHS in Gaibandha Sadar consist of fifty five thousand people. When Mamota project started its journey this Sub Center remain closed most of the days. General health services were available twice a week. Normal delivery including maternal health check were not available. People had to visit distance health facilities for their basic health check-up and pregnant mother were neglected from having treatment and were depended on traditional birth attendant. Mamota project revitalized the FWC Management Committee of Ballamjhar after starting the intervention at this union. Union Chairman has become very positive after getting orientation by the project. He expressed his feelings that pregnant mothers used to face tremendous difficulties in accessing health facilities for child delivery. This facility will improve the accessibility to health services for many mothers. They are now able to avail 24/7 delivery care and are no longer deprived of basic primary health care that they need. Union Chairman allocated budget for establish a child corner beside the health facility so that children can play and have a safe place during check-up of their mother. In addition, Union Parishad contributed a waiting space too as the existing waiting space is very congested which can create problem for the pregnant women.
