Story of Selina

I gave my first birth child at home by the village doctor because health facilities were non-functional and not easily accessible so childbirth at health facilities was not even considered as an option. But luckily, she (village doctor) was trained in normal delivery. She had some equipment to conduct delivery. After born my baby did not cry for long time and that village doctor tried in many ways to make my baby cry but her methods of making baby crying was horrible, but finally she (baby) cried. I was not prepared enough to take my second baby. I felt the same risk as six years ago during my first pregnancy. During second time pregnancy I visited to Community Clinic for my antenatal checkup. There the health care provider advised me to visit Mamota supported health center near to my house where skilled person (Midwives) attains the pregnant women like me with cordial behavior. During my 20 weeks of pregnancy, it was on 15 September last year, I came to Sonaroy UHFWC for my ANC checkup. It was a surprised time for me. I heard my baby’s heartbeat with an instrument which I never saw before. My urine, blood all was tested and I was having good advice for the best interest of me and my baby’s health. I went through the delivery room and post-natal care room and found the arrangement for the normal delivery. And that time me and my in-laws decided to deliver my baby in this center. I obtained the rest of my ANC visit from here. Midwife treated me very well and gave me medicine and advised about the balanced food every time. On 17 March 2022 morning, I felt pain and came here for a better treatment. They checked every physical condition. They provided me a birthing ball and advised for exercise using that so that my baby could easily come down. I delivered my second baby without any complications. This time my baby started crying from the beginning. I think it has become possible because I took 3 ANC checkups and took the necessary medicine like folic acid, calcium, vitamin B complex etc, and had all the require tests at the facility. I will advise all other pregnant women in my area to take more then 4 ANC and deliver baby in this health facility. “Mamota project’s interventions such as courtyard meeting with mothers counselling sessions with family and husband and satellite centers held in the neighborhood have given us knowledge and awareness about maternal and newborn services. Now I know how important it is to deliver at a health facility. Times have changed and so should our mindsets”- says mother in-law of Shelina.
